Lately I have been reading a great deal about over indulgence in excercise. And I am wondering if fellow deafies have heard the more recent scuttlebutt concerning excercise and vascular disease.
It is now believed that "less is more" and to use common sense and moderation when planning an excercise program.
My own mother was a prime example. My mom was a very vain lady and my memories are of her excercising steadily, every day, any day, she never missed. Later on when she became a little older she employed an excercise bike, which she rode faithfully. She used barbells and all kinds of gimmicks that she saw advertised on T.V. If it was advertised on late night television, you can be sure my mother had it!
Then there came a time when she had to cut down. The doctor warned her that too much of a good thing can be dangerous. Sure enough one, by one, my mom had to have each of her legs amputated below the knee, due to vascular disease. She did not have diabetes and had always followed a very strict diet, consuming home grown veggies and meat that was raised on the farm. Other than the vascular problem, she was in excellent health.
Moderation is the key.

Spoken like a wise sage!
ReplyDeleteYes, it is true moderation is the best way to keep the body healthy, Ecessive exercise takes longer for the body to heal and rebuild.
Blessed of who you are. *smiles*

My dearest Lantana,
ReplyDeleteYep, very true! That's what Jes and I have been doing in past couple of years to moderate our health very closely.
My mom just found out she have 3 different kind of skin cancer last week and she is going to be guest blogger on my site. So she can share and for all of us to be aware how to avoid.
She will be going through surgeries soon, two of them are very serious.
Hugs

Sorry to hear of this about your mom, SG. Many of us ladies enjoyed frying in the sun when we were younger, so that we would have that "healthy glow". In the end tho, the "glow" can kill us!
ReplyDeletePlease keep us informed about your mother, or better yet, have her state her progress in your blog!
I always appreciate your kind words. I think we all need to follow the rule "Easy Does It!" and not go overboard for ANYTHING.

Stephen Hardy, my what an impressive name and using it shows that you have nothing to hide! I am impressed.
ReplyDeleteThe word "sage" has just recently come into my vocabulary, I go to a parrot website called, "Sages In Cages", which I think is very appropriate.
Thank you for your post, I appreciate it.
Easy Does It!
