All Things Wise And Wonderful

I would like to reccomend the following website: www.paperbackswap.com I am one of those weird people who like to read while watching t.v.! I guess it is a survivor thing, since DH likes to watch Speed t.v. and that sort, so I always have a book handy to grab incase the program is really bad! Yes, we have more than one t.v. but we find that we prefer the bedroom t.v. where we can relax.

Reading has always been one of my favorite pastimes. Books saved my sanity when I lost my hearing at age 10 and books have come to my rescue even in social situations where I found myself left out. The sides of a milk carton, the back of cereal boxes, all come in handy for a deaf person!

I often have to pinch myself to make sure I am awake when I am enjoying a good closed captioned movie. We belong to Netflix, their website is amazing! Only once or twice have we received movies that have no captions.

Our latest favorite is The Queen. What a wonderful movie! I felt like I was living the story.

Gardening is another great hobby for a deaf person. I have never been lonely in our veggie garden or working in my flower beds. I have the ability to make all of my plants SMILE. I'll bet many of you did not know that plants smile! My grandchildren learned that from me. A legacy does not need to have monetary value.

  2. Hi!

I am so glad that you recommended that website! I also am avid reader, smile.

I am wondering if you would not mind to post your new vlog in signing - to instruct us people who are or may be interested in signing it up.

I am looking forward to your "how to do..." vlog! \o/

    Thanks,
    Kathryn

  3. Oh gee, I am allergic to cameras! They scare me to death. I have no problem with a webcam, but the whole thing is between me and the cam and no one else!

I also have arthritis in my fingers and am very self concious of my slow and awkward fingerspelling.

However I will give your request some consideration, and perhaps with a small bottle of wine, I can be convinced!

    Thanks for posting, you guys!

My dad has often taken a box of books into town for exchange when he is done reading them. I will let him know about it.

  6. Love that quote!

I'm so thankful that spring is finally here in the Chicago area. I've been digging in the soil this weekend and dividing a few plants. :)

  7. Oh, I love gardening too. There are several of us out here ;-). I've made a fairly large push this year to resurrect my gardening. What with dogs and working full time over the last decade or so, its been sadly neglected, but just today I've put in more plants, extended my automatic watering system (a life saver!) and generally just had a good time. Though it's hot now! Taking a break and catching up before I go back out there...

  8. By the way, I've assumed that "Lantana" is from the flowering vine of the same name? Or are you lucky/cool enough to have that as a real name too?

  9. We are at our farm for a few days to try and complete our planting.

Thanks everyone for the wonderful comments, and I will get back to you as soon as I can!

  10. Hi!

Oh I have a bottle of chardonnay here... maybe it might help? ;-)

It's cool that you mentioned Netflix because I'm huge Netflix junkie.. HA!

I used to buy all DVD movies until Netflix came along, now I only had to buy a couple of movies since, that was it. Saved a lot of money!

I used to love reading books but haven't done one for years, why? Well... unlikely you, I can't read and watch TV at the same time. :-D

Hmm, I haven't seen The Queen. I will add to the next right now.

I'm blaming on this glass of wine.

  12. Hee, hee. Charonnay is my favorite. 'Not too sweet, just right!

I wish my name was Lantana. 'Unfortunately my mother did not ask me for my opinion. I think I was named after one of my father's old girl friends! I have always admired the Lantana shrub in Hawaii, so many different colors, shades, etc. Variety is the spice of life!

  13. Well, I got alot of garden planted and I am back home now. I put in alot of "greens" for Lenny the parrot and cukes and zukes and Blue Lake POLE beans. Lots of broccoli, planted at various time, as to have a continuous crop. We eat it raw with dip. I have 2 artichoke plants and a couple of rhubarbs. I let the artichokes go to seed, the flowers are amazing!
