Tis The Season

We women enjoy Mountain Mama so much that I thought that perhaps I should share a few recipes of my own that I have accumiliated over 50 years. Being that it is the holiday season I will just mention recipes that are appropriate for the holidays or perhaps another special occasion.

Tired of turkey, so doing a ham this year?

RAISIN SAUCE FOR HAM

3/4 cup sugar

1 TB cornstarch

1 tsp cloves

2 TB vinegar (I use rice vinegar)

1 TB butter

1 cup raisins

Mix all together and boil gently until thickened. Serve in an attractive gravy boat with a small ladle.

STUFFED DATES

Purchase larger dates (found in the produce section in your market)

Remove seed or buy the pitted variety.

Fill with cream cheese and a chunk of walnut. Close.

Roll in powdered sugar. Serve on attractive candy dish.

PRETZEL SALAD (or can be served as a desert)

3/4 cup margarine

2 C. crushed pretzels

1 (6oz) pkg strawberry Jello

2 (10 oz sizes) frozen strawberries (partially thawed)

1 (8 oz) cream cheese, 1/2 C. sugar

1 (12 oz) Cool Whip

3 TB sugar

1 C. nuts

1 - 1/2 C. boiling water

Mix Margarine, pretzels, sugar and nuts together and bake in a 9x13 in. pan for 8 minutes at 400 degrees. Cool.

Mix Jello and water. Coolslightly, and add berries. Let stand until slightly thickened.

Mix cream cheese, sugar and Cool Whip and spread mixture over pretzels. Pour slightly thickened berries over cheese mixture. Place in fridge until firm and ready to serve.

*You can also use frozen raspberries and raspberry Jello instead of strawberries.

EXTREMELY good and worth the effort!

I have many, many favorite recipes and will share them occasionally if there is a call for them

Happy Holidaze everyone!

  2. Seek Geo is kind of funny... I mean, he's not crazy for pretzels and nuts, but he'll drink grass and sweat flavored sodas! Heh-heh-heh!

The stuffed dates look good. I may try those this year. Thanks and I agree, keep the recipes coming!

  5. Hi Lantana!

Nice to see someone else posting recipes! I am familiar with the strawberry salad recipe. Most people would never guess there were pretzels in the crust but they add a nice salty flavor to the sweetness of everything else! I haven't made this in a while, but I think I will make it for when family comes over next time!

Looking forward to reading about more recipes from you!

  6. Jenny, between you and I perhaps we can domesticate LaRonda! >Grin<

Deaf people are the world's most picky food critics! You go out to a restaurant with a crowd of them and all hell breaks loose if they are not happy with their meal!

Thanks for posting, I am not trying to beat your thunder, I just thought that I had something to offer too. The comments will be fun (like Geo and LaRonda's).
